THE INTERVIEW:

Q: What's one thing about what you do that people might not know?

A: I do voice over work! I've written and produced short films and commercials, and I did voice over work for them. I've also done voice acting for a series of short Christmas stories. I did different voices and everything. It was super fun!

Q: What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

A: "Hannah, you already know." (Gotta try not to cry as I answer this question.) Hi, my name is Hannah and I am a classic over thinker. No; or am I the queen of indecision? Ahh, I can't decide ;) I'm both. I'm super great at spiraling or analyzing things to death. Can you relate? Whenever I'd whip myself up into one of these frenzies, I'd often call my mom... who has unexpectedly died recently. I'd lay out the scenario for her from start to finish. She'd lovingly listen to me and then she'd ask: "Are you finished? Have you got it all out?" "Yes," I'd reply. And she'd simply say: "Hannah, you already know. You already know the answer." And without fail, I did. Internalizing that "I already know" is what many call "trust your gut." And I believe that's true for all of us—deep down we all know what needs to be done. We just need to summon the courage to do it.

Q: What are your thoughts on work/life balance? What does that mean to you?

A: I have way too many thoughts on this! Perhaps that's why I wrote a course on "Boundaries in the Workplace!" My main thought on it? It's essential, elusive, and possibly not even real. But one thing I do know, it only happens when you're intentional about it. Because I know most of you reading this right now are entrepreneurs, I will say this as my primary thought: It's easy to believe that because you "work for yourself" that you automatically get work/life balance. Not so, queen. I'm sorry. Flexibility is deceptive. Like anything in life, you've got to set parameters for yourself. Especially if you want to make space for "life"—family, friends, self care, vacations. Work/life balance happens by planning your time well, sticking to that plan, and saying no—often. The latter—saying no—has played a HUGE role in my life for the last couple of years. It's what freed me up to have better balance. Balance for me means being available for my family without feeling like my work world will fall apart. It also means stepping out my imaginary "have tos" or "shoulds" to see what is and be open to what's in front of me. We impose so much on ourselves, but often, so very little is truly necessary.
